Andrew Burgess
Cemetery Manager
Local businessman, Andrew Burgess is a member of a long established family in Geeveston and has a strong passion for local history.
He has a proven track record of local community leadership, having been a local scout master, cricket captain, Golf Club president, as well having executive roles in the Geeveston Progress Association, currently holding the position of Vice-President.
So when he learned of the news that the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania was going to sell off all its cemeteries, he was immediately concerned in case this Scotts Road cemetery would fall into corporate or government hands which had no personal investment in this site. Many of Andrew's relatives are interred here, as well as many others whose lives he can recall.
He persuaded the Geeveston Progress Association to apply for ownership of this cemetery due to its historical relevance to our community. A Cemetery Management sub-committee was formed, of which Andrew is the inaugural Chair.
Andrew is very interested to assist current and former local residents to identify sites of their friends and relatives, and to exchange stories about them.
